Monday Bliss: 6 Weeks to Overcome Procrastination – Week 2: Getting Going
Welcome to Monday Bliss. On Mondays I like to post an idea for something to do, with regards to your space, to launch your week feeling Bliss instead of Blahs. This is the second week in a series that will help you remove the obstacles to getting things done in your space – so you can relax and breathe easy, without them nagging at you.
Do you have trouble getting going on projects? You know they need to be done, you may already have them compiled in a list, but you just can’t bring yourself to DO them.
Another of the 6 Reasons for Procrastination is Difficulty Activating – what experts in overcoming procrastination call it. In feng shui we would call it “Fire Deficiency”. You know the phrase “someone needs to light a fire under her ___”? As a feng shui practitioner this is what I would say a client needs if the projects just aren’t getting done. (Not in those words.)
Fire, according to Chinese 5 Element Theory, is by definition active energy. It’s the energy of being “in the thick” or “the throws” of it, getting things done. Things are popping, moving, happening.
If the opposite is happening – if your projects are sitting neglected, stagnant, then you are in danger of your energy being stagnant too.
How to Overcome It
To overcome the difficulty activating obstacle, it helps to bring your Fire energy up. Here are two ways to do it:
- The Mundane (a typical, logical way)
Get yourself hyped up for the project. Make a list of all the things you’ll feel good about when it’s done. Set the date, buy your supplies (including snacks and beverages), put on your choice of mood music and put your body in motion.
- The Transcendent (a more metaphysical way, working on an energetic level)
Add the color red to your environment or person, triangle/star shapes, light a candle (all the Fire element) or visualize the project’s process and outcome step-by-step, as many times as it takes for you to feel it begin to spark.
Whatever you choose to do to increase the Fire element around your project, mundane or transcendental, it’s sure to get you from the passive to the active phase.
